2014 BMW 4 Series – For the first time, the coupe variant of the BMW 3 Series will get a different moniker.  BMW’s going all 4 Series on this new car.  It’s exciting to see what BMW has done with the 4 Series concept that will be present at the 2013 NAIAS in Detroit next January.  From sketches to the concept below, there’s a lot to love about BMW’s newborn as we embrace the new 4.

The BMW 4 Series … Concept?

Yes. This car is a concept. I’m not quite sure what’s the point of calling this car a concept since it’s pretty much ready. The thing we can understand though is BMW’s struggle to keep the secret. It’s like when you buy a Christmas gift two months in advance for you loved one, you just can’t wait.  We still did not feel the car in person, which tells everything. That will be accomplished next January when we meet the new BMW 4 Series in person at the COBO Center in Detroit.

The 4 Series is the birth of a new segment for the 4th generation of mid-size coupe at BMW.  If we believe BMW “the “4” stands for greater sportiness, greater exclusivity and even clearer differentiation from the BMW 3 Series range.”  The car has more of a sweeping look because of its overall wider stance, longer wheelbase, lower roofline and is longer overall length.

The car will be coming with the same engine choices than the Sedan 3 Series from both turbocharged, 240 horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder and 300 horsepower 3.0-liter 6-cylinder. We’d like to see the coupe get a bit more power so let’s see how BMW plays the cards this time. Prices are not yet announced, look for them before the car goes on sale sometimes next spring.

What I like about the new 2014 BMW 4 Series

  • It’s more aggressive look than the outgoing 3 Series Coupe
  • The distinction of the 4 Series vs the 3 Series
  • The optional 19″ sport wheels
